Description
This proven 1.5- to 3-day Strategic Decision Making Simulation helps leaders and cross-functional teams strengthen business acumen, improve strategic thinking, and make better decisions under competitive pressure.

In this immersive, highly experiential business simulation, teams take over the leadership of competing capital-intensive companies serving the same customers in a rapidly changing marketplace. Participants assume executive responsibilities across finance, operations, production, marketing, sales, and competitive intelligence while balancing growth, profitability, cash flow, and long-term value creation.

Working in teams of four to six, participants must allocate scarce resources, respond to changing market conditions, outmaneuver competitors, and determine where and when to invest. Every decision affects financial performance, operational capacity, customer satisfaction, and competitive position, creating a realistic environment where strategy, execution, and collaboration must work together.

Often described as a practical “micro-MBA,” this dynamic simulation builds the business judgment leaders need to make smarter strategic, operational, and financial decisions.

Typical Business Challenges Addressed

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Translate strategic priorities into coordinated operational and financial actions that drive measurable business results.
  • Business Acumen: Understand how day-to-day decisions influence profitability, cash flow, competitive position, and long-term enterprise value.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Break down organizational silos by recognizing how finance, sales, operations, production, and market intelligence work together to achieve business objectives.
  • Financial Decision-making: Use financial statements, key performance indicators (KPIs), forecasts, and business metrics to make informed decisions that improve performance.
  • Market and Competitive Insight: Evaluate customer demand, competitive dynamics, and market trends to make better strategic decisions about where and how to compete.
  • Operational Execution: Optimize capacity, production, delivery, inventory, and working capital while adapting quickly to changing business conditions.

Strategic Decision Making Simulation for Leaders and High-Performance Teams

Faced with hundreds of interconnected operational and strategic decisions under intense competitive pressure, participants learn to make sound business decisions despite limited resources, imperfect information, and tight deadlines.

Participants leave with the ability to:

  • Understand how operational decisions affect financial performance — and how financial results reflect business decisions.
  • Improve strategic thinking by balancing short-term execution with long-term value creation.
  • Increase cross-functional collaboration, communication, and organizational alignment.
  • Strengthen analytical thinking and decision-making when resources, time, and capital are constrained.
  • Build confidence interpreting financial statements, business metrics, forecasts, and key performance indicators.
  • Better anticipate customer needs, competitive actions, and changing market conditions.
  • Improve business literacy, financial acumen, and enterprise-wide thinking.

Throughout the simulation, teams make realistic executive decisions, including:

  • Which growth opportunities deserve investment.
  • How many markets to enter and when.
  • Whether to expand existing product lines or introduce new offerings.
  • When to invest in production capacity and operational improvements.
  • Whether to pursue market leadership or capitalize as a fast follower.
  • How to balance profitability, cash flow, customer satisfaction, and long-term competitive advantage.

We reviewed the top Leadership Development offerings and selected LSA’s 12-month Leadership Program based upon the value and systemic approach.

The feedback on the program, approach, and results was phenomenal. While other programs may be better known, the other options were more theoretical and did not compare in terms of LSA’s practicality, quality, and results.

We could not be happier.

It was a challenge to find a consultant with an approach to performance improvement that fit our unique performance culture and style. We were pleasantly surprised to discover LSA’s depth of expertise in the fields of motivation, developmental coaching, performance management, and measurement.

LSA seamlessly integrated those components without our folks feeling like the intervention was forced. They understood what we were trying to accomplish, helped us clarify our objectives, and created a solid, refreshing approach that quickly got us moving and engaged at all levels across the organization.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier that we found a true strategy and implementation partner in LSA.

FAQs

A strategic decision making simulation is an interactive business exercise that places participants in realistic leadership scenarios where they must analyze data, evaluate tradeoffs, collaborate under pressure, and make critical and enterprise-wide business decisions. Unlike traditional classroom learning, experiential simulations allow leaders to practice strategic thinking and decision-making skills in a dynamic, risk-free environment that mirrors real-world business complexity.

Strategic decision making simulations are especially valuable for executives, senior leaders, high-potential managers, cross-functional teams, and emerging leaders responsible for driving strategic business results. Organizations often use simulations to strengthen strategic alignment, improve enterprise thinking, accelerate leadership readiness, and help teams navigate uncertainty with greater confidence and agility.

Participants strengthen a broad range of leadership and business capabilities, including strategic thinking, prioritization, risk assessment, financial acumen, collaboration, communication, scenario planning, and decision-making under uncertainty. Simulations also help leaders recognize how short-term choices can impact long-term organizational performance, customer outcomes, and competitive positioning.

Strategic clarity accounts for 31% of the difference between high- and low-growth companies. Research consistently shows that experiential learning accelerates skill retention and behavioral change more effectively than passive learning alone. Strategic decision making simulations help leaders practice applying business frameworks in realistic situations, which improves judgment, execution, and cross-functional collaboration. Organizations often use simulations to align leaders around strategy, improve adaptability, and increase organizational agility during periods of growth, transformation, or market disruption.

Traditional training often focuses on concepts and theory, while simulations immerse participants in realistic business challenges that require active problem-solving and decision-making. This experiential approach increases engagement, strengthens critical thinking, and helps leaders immediately connect learning to real business situations. Simulations also create opportunities for reflection, feedback, and team-based learning that reinforce lasting behavior change.
