“LSA’s ability to assess and develop training has been a critical resource for me to help our teams to perform at their peak.

I love that LSA focuses on training that truly makes a meaningful impact on the people and the business.”
Noelle VanVlierbergen | Sr. HR Business Partner | Apple Inc.

How you assess and develop talent matters.  Research shows that less than one-third of companies that achieve success are able to maintain it over decades.  Even companies that create a strong strategic position struggle to protect it for long periods of time.

According to McKinsey, executives report five times more productivity when their people are firing on all cylinders and performing at their peak.  Our own organizational alignment research tells us that a company’s ability to attract, develop, engage and retain talent accounts for up to 29% of the difference between high and low performing organizations in terms of revenue growth, profitability, leadership effectiveness, customer loyalty, and employee engagement.

How do you beat the odds?  Assess and develop talent the right way.

  • First, make sure that you have a clear, believable and implementable business strategy.
  • Second, create a high performance environment for your people to perform at their peak.
  • And third, be strategic with your talent and treat them differently.

Most agree that running a winning business requires making the right strategic choices and wise investments.  Few however apply the same principles with the necessary rigor to their talent management strategy, planning, or development.

Because of this, organizations continue to spend (and often waste) billions of dollars each year on training and development for their employees – programs that typically fail to produce tangible behavior change or business results.

To better assess and develop talent, we help companies with these proven five steps:

  1. Determine the strategic priorities and the specific business metrics that you want to move
  2. Identify the most important current and future strategic jobs, skills, and people
  3. Agree upon how your people will best contribute to your company’s competitive advantage
  4. Design a talent assessment, development, and management approach to create the value in the short and long-term with a distinct line of sight between people practices and strategic success.  This includes using experiential activities, action learning, and simulation assessments whenever possible.
  5. Disproportionately invest in high-value employees

Behavior change is not easy.  Having the desired new behaviors impact performance and specific business outcomes is even more difficult.

Behavioral change theorists typically site eight factors known to influence behavior: intention, environmental constraints, skills, attitudes, norms, self-standards, emotion, and self-efficacy.  How you push and pull on each factor to make an impact depends upon your desired outcomes and specific situation.

If you want meaningful results, get strategic with how you assess and develop your top talent in alignment with your business and talent strategies for your unique organizational culture.
