Zillow, the leading real estate marketplace and housing super app, wanted to transform their sales strategy to shift from product pitches to a consultative sales approach that fostered trust and drove business growth with their large real estate partners. To achieve this, they aimed to create unified business sales training to equip their teams in the following areas:

  • New Logos: Convert new customers in a highly competitive market.
  • Up-Selling and Cross-Selling: Sell higher-quality services at a premium price by differentiating from lower-cost alternatives.
  • Customer Adoption:  Drive adoption of their total integrated solution.
  • Decision Makers: Expand relationships from buyers to executive-level decision-makers.
  • Customer Loyalty: Increase customer loyalty by fostering long term engagement and trust.

Approach

Taking a customized training program approach, the final solution incorporated the following key elements:

  1. Customization
    Based upon interviews and discovery, our solution selling training program was customized to reflect Zillow’s unique language and culture, becoming the Zillow Way of Selling.
  2. Training Across Sales Hunters and Farmers
    The program was deployed across both the Acquisition and Growth & Retention teams, driving
    alignment throughout the organization.
  3. Leadership Integration
    Sales leadership training was incorporated to foster a coaching culture among Zillow’s sales managers to equip them with the skills to lead, manage, and coach their teams to sustain high performance over time.
  4. A.I.-Powered Performance Tracking
    GONG’s smart trackers were integrated to monitor sales behavioral changes and engagement metrics post-training.
  5. Training Measurement
    Participant feedback measured the effectiveness of the program, ensuring its alignment with Zillow’s strategic sales objectives.

Results

Zillow achieved a 39% increase in quarter-over- quarter quota attainment within 90 days.
In addition to high relevancy scores from participants that validated the alignment and impact of the program on long-term success, sales performance improvement was fueled by several key behaviors and strategies, including:

  • 103% Trusted Advisor Improvement
    Account Executives who consistently exhibited the characteristics of a Trusted Advisor outperformed relationship managers and transactional sellers by 103% and scored 88% higher in their ability to build value, driving stronger partnerships and more meaningful outcomes.
  • 300% Increase in Engaged Selling Time
    Reps shifted from less productive conversations to consultative discussions focused on customer needs and business growth.
  • 68% More Frequent Sales Progress
    Top performers applied client-first concepts 68% more often than low performers, excelling in engaging decision-makers, moving meetings forward, and building value through integrated solutions.

Originally, we launched a RFP to partner with a sales training provider to improve the sales skills of our global distributor network.
