Improving Revenue at a Medical Supply Company

Client Case Study

Situation

In an effort to boost revenues within accounts too small to be supported by the field organization and the distribution channel, this medical supplies manufacturer (Revenue: $100 million) decided to create a telesales team to sell their products direct.

Complications

  • New Venture: This client had never hired or built or managed a direct sales team.

Approach

  1. Hiring and Compensation: We recruited and hired the entire telesales team – both the manager and inside sales reps – and designed the compensation packages to align with the new venture.
  2. Target Client Profile: To ensure the company’s resources were concentrated on prospects with the highest potential returns, we analyzed the existing customer base and then designed a demographic profile for four categories of prospects.
  3. Strategy and Implementation: Once the target audience was defined, we created and implemented a telesales strategy for each qualified segment that included new systems and processes to help manage the sales department – including establishing productivity levels, performance measurements, and designing management reports.
  4. CMS: Designed the contact management system to manage the call process and house the key customer data.
  5. Leadership Development: Team leaders attended an accelerated program for managing, coaching, motivating, and retaining employees
  6. Inside Sales Skills: Telesales reps participated in and inside selling skills program, reinforced with monthly one-on-one coaching from our certified trainer.

We originally engaged with LSA Global to help our subcontract administrators and buyers develop better negotiations skills. As manufacturers of satellites, we have many sole source companies to procure the required parts.

Our teams must be able to interact effectively with international companies. This environment uniquely challenges our team in their ability to create equitable contracts, while preserving and strengthening our supplier relationships.

LSA Global not only provided our team with the skills to negotiate effectively and consistently, but we further expanded our relationship to include consulting around our negotiations’ process, measurement of our negotiations, and one-on-one coaching for our team members.
