eBay, the World’s Online Marketplace, enabling trade on a local, national, and international basis, wanted to increase the knowledge and skills of key directors and managers in the areas of:

  • Connecting coaching conversations to performance improvement and employee engagement
  • Conducting an effective coaching Meeting
  • Utilizing coaching tools in eBay’s environment where time is a major constraint
  • Utilizing eBay’s performance management tools, terminology, and processes
  • Increase awareness of how Performance Leadership behaviors affect eBay’s culture, values, and success.

Complications

  • Speed
    The fast rate of business growth and hiring increased performance expectations and pressure.
  • Time
    Leaders did not feel like they had the time to coach and manage performance because they were so overwhelmed with the day-to-day pressures of meeting project deliverables.

Approach

  1. Assess
    Reviewed and understand eBay Performance Management tools, terminology, and processes.
  2. Create Executive Alignment
    Presented objectives and approach at Monthly Executive Team Meeting for approval, input, and next steps to ensure business AND people relevance.
  3. Implement
    Designed and delivered a customized pilot Leadership Coaching and Performance Management Training program to key directors and managers that made sense in eBay’s unique corporate culture.
  4. Adjust and Roll-out
    Measured training results, incorporated feedback, and delivered additional Coaching and Performance Management workshops for approximately 200+ directors and managers.

Results

  • 92.8% satisfaction for 225 directors and managers
  • 115% reported knowledge gain for 225 directors and managers
