Using 360 Feedback & Leadership Development to Drive Strategy Execution and Market Share at a Global Chemical Company

Situation
In order to drive growth and operational efficiency improvement, this 3 billion dollar global chemical company wanted to improve executive capabilities and mindsets in the midst of major organizational change through customized 360 feedback and highly targeted leadership development.

Complications

  • New Leadership
    As a result of a recent spin-off, virtually all of the senior leaders across the enterprise were new to their positions of authority.
  • Speed
    There was a sense of urgency for the new senior team to establish its credibility in the marketplace and in the financial markets while simultaneously driving major changes across the organization to improve revenues and margins.

Approach
The approach to help drive the necessary organizational and behavioral changes used three main steps:

  1. Leadership 360
    The current state analysis included reviewing current strategic initiatives, conducting 1×1 interviews with leaders, and rolling out a 360º feedback process to assess the current culture and organizational dynamics.
  2. Executive Coaching
    1×1 coaching for the executive team based upon the 360 results that aligned with the company’s top strategic priorities.
  3. Cohort-based Learning
    Targeted development for the CEO through the top fifteen leaders of the organization including role specific feedback, customized leadership action learning programs, and individual development action plans to ensure high levels of relevance, transparency, accountability, and impact.

Results
The customized 360 Feedback and Leadership Development process resulted in:

  • Increased executive leadership team trust and strategic focus.
  • Accelerated departure of employees who did not have the right capabilities or mindset.
  • Improved strategy execution.
  • Increased market share.
