Based upon employee engagement survey results, this fast growing technology client revamped their performance management processes to be more career growth oriented.  Leadership wanted:

  • To provide practical skills and proven tools to increase the value and impact of Mid-Year Performance Conversations for managers and their direct reports.
  • Employees to have the confidence and competence to partner with their manager to explore meaningful growth and development opportunities while examining the value and impact of career growth and development strategies.

The highly customized session was based on the premise that employees are more likely to enjoy their work when their day-to-day deliverables and responsibilities have a clear line of sight to company priorities and align with their long-term career goals and aspirations.

Managers were taught about the importance of caring about their team’s success beyond the day-to-day work and provided tools to help structure roles and opportunities that align with the team’s charter.

The Mid-Year Performance Conversations Training had three key sections:

  • Preparing for the Conversation
    This section set the stage for structured development conversations using connection, collaboration, and commitment to goal clarity.

    To effectively explore growth and development managers and direct reports needed to be prepared for an effective and mutually beneficial conversation.

  • Calibrating Goals
    This section taught participants that understanding growth and development as it relates to people’s personal passion, purpose, and vision is only half of the equation.

    To truly support growth and development, managers and employees must also objectively examine the value and impact of growth and development goals at the individual, team and organizational levels.

  • Aligning Expectations and Agreeing to Next Steps
    While managers should help to facilitate growth opportunities, this section focused on the employees responsibility for their own career growth and development.

    Employees learned how to surface, manage, and set expectations for their own career ambitions.
