80% of the project team members were PhD’s and engineers, the atmosphere was highly political, the domain area was new, and 30% of the of the project team were remote in Asia.  The company was frustrated with the project results, the risk of attrition with top talent from the core team was high, the project was highly visible, and cost over $6m.
Unless new projects are done differently, the same problems could occur with potentially more dire results.
After reviewing project documentation, designing and administering an online project post mortem assessment, and interviewing the core project team representatives from each functional area, the project team was guided by LSA’s Project Expert as they reflected upon the critical few success and failures. They agreed upon what went right, what went wrong and why and identified the key lessons learned and actions going forward. They were able to share their points of view in an open and valuable discussion, look forward rather than backward, and define action items to enable success in the future within their unique business model and corporate culture.
