Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) markets the PlayStation® family of products and serves as Headquarters for all North American operations and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. The company wanted to:

  • Increase overall leadership and management effectiveness.
  • Improve individual and team productivity.
  • Increase overall performance.

Complications

  • Growth: Rapid growth has accelerated promotion for many technical superstars into management roles requiring new competencies and expectations.
  • Skepticism: Previous training initiatives had not hit the mark.  Employees were hesitant to attend training and corporate would not mandate the sessions.

Approach

  1. Design: Customize a Situational Leadership training program and performance management toolkit focusing on being a successful leader at Sony.
  2. Application: Customize ½-day of application, practice, and discussion related to Sony’s performance management toolkit that included:
    • Performance evaluations
    • Employee feedback
    • Coaching
    • Managing
    • Leading
  3. Reinforcement: Follow-up offerings for individuals and teams regarding coaching, feedback, communication, conflict resolution, and team-building.
  4. Process Improvements: Review and update of performance management procedures and HR organizational support structure and implementation of HR Consulting program.

Results
For over 200 managers:

  • 97.8% client satisfaction
  • 237% knowledge gain
  • 140% increase in employee demand for training
