3 Critical Needs to Attract Top Talent

Successful companies today rely on their organizational culture and talent as the asset that can keep them on the leading edge of their business. If their innovative employees were to leave, they would quickly lose their leadership position in the marketplace.

How do these top companies attract and keep their talent so they stay on top? They provide three critical needs of “A” level players. If you can adopt these same three key components, then you too can pull in the talent you need to succeed.

  1. Mission
    The most engaged employees feel that there is a true purpose to their work. They know why they do what they do. They are fulfilling a mission that is larger than simple hours spent earning their keep. They are truly making a difference. When you can define in meaningful terms the reason your business exists, you have a powerful attractive force for the talent you want.
  2. Recognition
    Employees work with greater dedication when they feel appreciated. This doesn’t mean you have to hand out large bonuses. It does mean that you should reward desired behaviors with meaningful gestures that show your gratitude for hard work well done. When you can demonstrate to employees that you value them, you have put into play another force that draws in top talent.
  3. Differentiation
    What is it that your company fundamentally does better than the competition? When you can articulate how you are distinguished from others in the field in a way that matters, you can attract the top talent that seeks to work for the best. They won’t settle for second-rate. Top talent wants to contribute in the most effective way with a team of high performers.

Don’t skimp on investing in treating your talent differently. Make your value visible with a clear mission, significant recognition of the behaviors you seek and your company’s distinguishing features. It won’t be long before the best talent will come knocking on your door.
